The Birth Of Cameron's Garden

October 31, 2015

As National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month comes to a close, we’d like to highlight a program that supports West Michigan families grieving the loss of a baby during all months of the year. Cameron’s Garden is a program offered by MomsBloom, Inc. to provide individualized emotional support to families coping with miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss.

We asked Lesley Jeruzal, Cameron’s Garden co-founder to tell share the story of how this important program came to be.

Lesley says,

Nothing quite compares to the anticipation when expecting a new baby. You hope. You dream. You plan. But what happens when those plans change? When the dreams come crashing down with the words “I’m sorry….”?

I’ve been there. It felt so unreal, seeing her tiny, perfectly formed body - still and silent on the ultrasound screen. “I’m sorry, I don’t see a heartbeat.” Those words will haunt me for the rest of my life, but it wasn’t the most difficult part of my stillbirth journey.

The most difficult part would come months later when I so desperately sought out support and healing, only to find there were little to no resources available in our community. I remember saying to myself, I shouldn’t have to work this hard to find the help and support I need in grieving the loss of my baby.

That’s why I co-founded MomsBloom’s Cameron’s Garden Grief Support Program. We wanted to help other moms and families through the isolation and pain that comes with pregnancy loss.

We worked tirelessly to develop a program that could provide the same tender, practical support our all MomsBlooms families receive- but with a focus on perinatal grief support. Cameron’s Garden volunteers are specially trained to support parents who are grieving a pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or newborn death. MomsBloom provides education to those around the bereaved, to help each family find their voice…to grieve in a way that is meaningful and healing for them. My hope is that no family has to walk this grief journey alone. You can help families access the support that will bring healing- please visit https://momsbloom.org/programs/camerons-garden/   for more

information.

October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss awareness month. We remember all the babies we can only hold in our hearts.  Help us make sure that no family grieves in isolation.
